Poly-Monde is a student initiative bringing together 24 futurs engineers from Polytechnique Montreal, whose goal is to establish an economic comparison between the province of Quebec and other regions of the world. Each year for the last 35 years, the membres of every Poly-Monde mission have visited 60 compamies across three main business sectors. This year, The mission focuses on the sectors of mining and metallurgy, infrastructure and construction, and energy. In May 2024, Poly-Monde members will fly to complete the international part of their mission in Chile. Upon their return, the students will synthesize their learning in a mission report.
To begin with, the construction sector encompasses the entirety of principles, activities, techniques, and materials involved in the conceptualization, erection, renovation, or demolition of structures. Regarding the infrastructure sector, it constitutes a network of interdependent structures or facilities that partially or wholly support various networks. These sectors involve a diverse range of activities owing to their fundamental role in society. These diverse aspects are consolidated into transport infrastructure, sustainable construction technologies, and versatile urban infrastructure.
The energy sector is crucial in supplying electricity and providing the energy necessary for the functioning of the population. It encompasses the exploitation, distribution, and storage of both fossil and renewable energy. Electricity, natural gas, oil, as well as renewable and nuclear energies, are all included in this sector.
